Great Taste Blitz
Platform: PC | Tech: Unity, Wii Remote, IR LEDs
Lead Programmer / Designer
A football themed game developed in Unity for the PC using Wii Remotes and custom shoulder pad controllers for input. Best described as a rails shooter, players wearing shoulder pad controllers move their onscreen avatar left and right to dodge obstacles while "shooting" various targets that appear in the environment. The custom shoulder pad controller consisted of IR LEDs embedded in foam shoulder pads. The LEDs are monitored by a Wii Remote placed in a stationary location. Responsibilities included: Leading the development team. Designing the custom controller. Prototyping the shoulder pad controller and developing schematics and specifications for production of the control- ler. Implementing game code, designing levels. Challenges included tuning the game for a less-than-powerful tablet PC and reading the Wii Remotes in Unity. Solution was a UDP Wii Remote server with a client running in Unity.
Miller Lite Slam Zone
Platform: PC | Tech: XNA, Wii Remote
Lead Programmer / Designer
A head-to-head baseball game. Players use a Wii Remote to pitch and bat. Score is based on the section of the stadium the ball lands in. Pitching players can vary the speed of the pitch to trip up the batter. The game contains a live video mode that incorporates a video feed from an attached web cam on an arbitrary surface within the environment. The live video feed functionality was created prior to XNA containing video support.
Testing the live video feed component. In gameplay, a feed from a webcam shows players on the game's jumbotron screen. The video feed is brought in during key events such as a homerun or strikeout.
Sesame
Platform: IPhone, Door | Tech: Cocoa, Phidgets Mono
Sole Programmer
This project is something i concieved half in jest. I consider it a mockery of the sea of apps that exist to serve trivial mundane purposes.
Jokes aside, it has proven to be surprisingly useful. We find it far more reliable than the regular remote for the garage, and more convenient too. The app connects to a web service which activates a usb relay triggering the door.
Miller Lite Hockey
Platform: PC | Tech: TorqueX, Wii Remote
Sole Programmer / Designer
A head to head hockey goal shooting game for PC implemented using XNA and our custom Mauer game engine. Players get a chance to both shoot at and defend the goal. The game itself is very simple with the shooting player choosing 1 of 5 spots on the goal to shoot at and then swinging the remote to take their shot. The defending player then has to react to onscreen cues, pick the correct shot location and swing to block the incoming shot. Responsibilities included communicating creative requirements to artists and being the sole developer.
Miller Lite Hoops Challenge
Platform: PC | Tech: TorqueX, Wii Remote
Lead Programmer / Designer
A sequel to the original March Hoops game. Rewritten in the TorqueX engine. Provided gameplay enhancements including tournament modes for 4, 8, and 16 players, faster paced play, a Verlet engine for net animations, and minor graphic tweaks.
Miller Lite Rodeo Roundup
Platform: PC | Tech: TorqueX, Wii Remote
Sole Programmer / Designer
A bull roping game for PC implemented using TorqueX. The player experiences riding a horse through a rodeo arena while trying to rope a bull weaving in front of them. The player whirls their lariat with the remote then releases a button to throw. Challenges included implementing a Verlet integration engine to model rope behavior and monitoring Wii Remote for whirling input.
Miller Lite March Hoops
Platform: PC | Tech: XNA, Wii Remote
Sole Programmer / Designer
A head-to-head basketball free throw shooting game using XNA. Players compete to sink as many free throws as possible using a Wii Remote and a throwing motion to throw. Challenges included writing physics, collision, and scene management code from scratch. This game led to development of the Mauer engine used in several later games.
